My Dexta Had No Proofmeter
Instead of a Proofmeter, my Dexta had a fuel pump for the glow-start system mounted there on a riveted plate. It had been like this for years.
MF 135 Proofmeter Works Just Fine
After exhausting all attempts to find a OEM Dexta Proofmeter, then seeing a few working Dexta units and realizing it did not matter anyway, I ordered a MF-135 proofmeter. It works perfect. My max RPM is 2050 which is perfect.
Since the MF-135 has six similar gears, and also uses an A3-152 Perkins, this is the next best thing. And so much cheaper. 56 dollars and 58 cents from Russells Tractor Parts SPAREX PN: M10-06-08-41076 (see links)
Notice the 6 bands which coincide with RPM, these rate out the speed, which (I checked) is very very similar to the Dexta speeds in each gear.
Idle is 650 RPM
Notice I broke my engine kill knob while installing the tachometer. Guess I will have to get one tomorrow.
This MF 135 tachometer works perfect. If you're looking for a tach to roll up hours, to accurately tell you what RPM you're working at, and even to tell you what speed your are traveling, this Proofmeter is fine. If you want OEM, first: good luck finding a unit, and secondly: you're going to shell out some money.
While I was at it, I fixed the oil pressure gage and the proofmeter tach backlights, so now I can see them in the dark.
Proofmeter project done. It now does Proofmeter stuff.
GUARANTEED
While traveling in Europe, I found this knob that has an eagle and enscription "GUARANTEED" which seems to fit perfect on my engine kill cable. Tapped the knob, and threaded the cable with 6mm and it is fixed. Guaranteed.
Front Pivot Pin Repair
Dexta OEM front Pivot Pins are nigh impossible to get. A Massey Ferguson (PN 18322101) Pivot Pin is a bolt in fix. Also you will need (MF) PN 2N3039 (FORD) PN 39-57front Axle bushing for the job.
As you can see in the picture, I am supporting the engine with a floor jack, and have dropped the tractor lower than the axle.
Installed the bushing with the pin itself, as it has a flange which allows you to tap the bushing in.
Used a slice of the old bushing for filler on the rear hole in the axle carrier and brazed it it.
This pin is TIGHT.
Loader Shaft and DEXTA OEM Keeper Flange
I have the new loader drive shaft inserted, and additionally I am holding up the old pivot pin keeper flange, as the new MF Pivot Pin has a built-in flange.
Like I said, this is a bolt on repair.
Radiator Bushings
Never throw anything good away. When I did the shocks on my wife's Mercedes, new shock kits came with new preformed rubber bushings.
The old ones worked perfect on my radiator lower studs. I had to replace the old carriage bolts anyway, so I bought 1/2" longer carriage bolts and used the rubber cushions.
These cushions allow me to compress them down or leave them looser, to get the right adjustment for my fan blades in the shroud. Of course they absorb vibration well.
They look good too!
